ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Library Assistant positions are utilized in the Literacy Program, Children’s Services, and Technical Services/Computer Lab. The Literacy Program provides free, confidential literacy instruction for any adult, eighteen (18) years of age and older, in the Downey area; to encourage family literacy; and to encourage lifelong learning. Children’s Services offers reference service and a wide variety of books, videos, cassette tapes, magazines, and pamphlets and programs for the children from preschool age through 8th grade. Technical Services offers online service to all the features found in the on-line catalog and gives people outside the opportunity to browse the wide selection of books, videos, audiobooks, reference materials, and use of the computer lab with a library card. The online Library Catalog also gives the opportunity to place a book on hold, guaranteeing the book’s availability for your next library visit. The current vacancy is in the Technical Services Area of the Library in the Computer Lab however, the list may be used for any other areas of the Library. Working Hours: The Library is currently open Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Incumbents must be able to work two (2) nights a week and rotating Saturdays. Sunday availability may be required. The current need is to work the night shift in the Computer Lab Monday through Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. and rotating Friday and Saturday mornings from 9:30 -1:00 p.m. Part-Time shifts may not exceed 999 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 thorough June 30.)
